Living near the mudslide
A mudslide nearly destroyed Nilsa's house. She's still living there while a new one is built.
Nilsa, 11, from Honduras, says, 'I don't like it at all. It's really scary. I would prefer to live further away from the mudslide that hit our community. I get afraid when it rains 'cos I'm scared that another mud-slide will hit the house.'
After Mitch struck, Nilsa couldn't go to school because people were using it as a shelter. This year she's going to school in La Laguna.
'I like it a lot. It's safe here.'
Daniela's new house and school
Daniela, 10, lives high up in the hills near Matagalpa, in Nicaragua. Last November, after four days of non-stop rain and roaring winds, they escaped up the hillside, avoiding falling trees and rolling rocks, just in time before their house collapsed.
Now Daniela and her family live in a new house built with money from Christian Aid, on land given to them by a neighbour. The new house is quite empty at the moment (they lost all their furniture) but Daniela has made some paper doves to decorate their new home.
Daniela's school was also destroyed by the hurricane. The best part of the opening ceremony of her new school, was when they played with a pinata.
