People at war
Thousands of people, in many countries of the world, are at war. And over the years, millions of landmines have been laid during the fighting. Landmines explode with a footstep, and many men, women and children have been killed and injured by them.

Trying to help
Landmine Action is an organisation working to get rid of all landmines, and help the people affected by them. Landmine Action's members (Christian Aid is a member) work in the world's poorest countries, clearing mines and helping victims. We are also trying to get governments of the world to stop making landmines.
Ban landmines!
Around the world, 139 countries, including the UK, have signed the Ottawa Treaty. This is an agreement which bans landmines. But to get rid of them forever, every country must sign. Unfortunately, the United States of America, is not one of these countries.
You can help
President Bush needs to sign up to the treaty now. Perhaps with your help he can be persuaded.
