Why are people hungry?
Millions of people across southern Africa have not got enough food to eat. The main reason for this is the weather. There have been many months when there is not enough rain, and other times when there are floods, and this means that crops can't grow. Without crops to harvest, and food to eat, many people are very hungry.
How is Christian Aid helping?
Christian Aid is helping by giving out emergency food. In parts of Malawi, a country in southern Africa, families are given a sack of maize, to last them a month. This helps families who are very hungry, but there's not enough for everyone.
What can people in southern Africa do?
The people of Kambalame Village, in Malawi, have built a fish farm, to make money to buy food. Everyone in the village spent a month scooping out the earth, to make a large pond, in which they are now farming different kinds of fish.
The fish are caught in huge nets, which people drag across the pond by wading in the water. The villagers can sell the fish to get money to buy food. What's more, when they've got enough fish for two pools, they're going to dig another pond. In the future, they'd like to have a pond for each person.
