Thursday 6 June
We went to a place called Kom Carob today. People can go there to learn to read and write to help them get a job. We went to a place where they make pots. I made two little ones and one big one, and I drew a picture on it, crosses in the air and some birds.
Later on I went to see what school in Egypt is like. I met a girl called Amirah there. We walked around some houses where there were pictures on the walls that told a story with a moral. They were very beautiful.
That evening I went to a show on a boat called the Golden Pharoah. Everyone who worked there wore exactly the same slippers as me! One of the dancers grabbed me and made me dance with her. Then a man started dancing and he was spinning round for 15 minutes but he didn't get dizzy. Dad told me that this kind of dancer is called a whirling dervish.
Friday 7 June
I went to see my granny. I took her some biscuits. We sat and chatted for a while and then we had lunch. We had fish with rice and spices. It was delicious!
After lunch, the whole family went on a boat called a falucca. I sat on the side and watched the water. I felt very sleepy, but so happy to be in my country.
