Friday 26 July
On the way back to Santo Domingo, we visited a beautyspot a waterfall called the Salto de Jimenoa. You have to walk along rope bridges to get there. They sway a lot! It was so beautiful watching the waterfall. I didn't want to leave.
You can see the waterfall here.
When we get back to Santo Domingo, we headed for the market, to look for souvenirs. There are lots of stalls selling food and clothing, as well as religious icons and gifts. I saw a shrine to San Miguel (St Michael in English). Local people and tourists come here to ask him for favours. I lit a candle and made a donation and a wish.
Check out the market here.
In the evening we went to a restaurant that serves traditional Dominican food. There was also a band. After eating, people danced a popular dance called the Merengue. I was a bit shy at first, but it's great!
Saturday 26 July
It's my last day here! We went to church and it was packed because it's Father's Day. The service was all in Spanish, but there was much more music and singing than at home.
It's been a long week, but I feel lucky that I was able to come and see everything. It's like a paradise here. You can't really experience The Dominican Republic through a post card, you've got to be there in real life!
