Vijay went to north India

Friday 12 April
Today we visited a primary school. I chatted with the children and their teachers about school life. Later, I played the harmonium and the children sang songs. I was also given a tour of a village and tried weaving some cotton on a huge loom... tricky!!

Check out my attempts at weaving!

We wanted to be in Amritsar, where my relatives live, before nightfall. I was looking forward to meeting them. It was a long journey north from Delhi. We got there a bit late and it was dark. We had a big meal and chatted late into the night.

Saturday 13 April
Today it was Baisakhi, the Punjabi New Year, and the most important day in the Sikh calendar. We decided to go to the Golden Temple, the holiest Sikh shrine, which is just a 15-minute walk from where my relatives live. This was the highlight of the trip. We tried to drive there, but it was so busy near the temple that we had to walk. It was like Wembley Stadium on Cup Final day. We wanted to film inside the temple but because of the crowds it wasn't possible. It was such a fantastic place I just had to come back when it was less crowded. It was everything I had imagined it to be and more.

Sunday 14 April
I woke up with a temperature and I felt terrible. I thought I was suffering from heat exhaustion. A doctor gave me an injection, which hurt, but I was feeling much better by teatime. Some friends came round and asked me if I wanted to fly a kite on the roof terrace. It was brilliant!

All in all, I had a wonderful time. I'd like to thank everyone involved in the programme for choosing me to go on this wonderful trip.

PS I would love to do it again, sometime!
