What is Christian Aid?
Kids council

Savita, 10, from India, belongs to a children's council, which teaches kids how to do important jobs, like how to check the village water. The council has been set up by an organisation that works with Christian Aid.

'I go to each water pump with a friend, and fill up a special water-testing bottle. The water looks clean but it may have tiny germs in it that can make us ill. There is a strip of paper in the bottle that turns the water turns black after 24 hours if there are germs in it. When this happens we go round and tell our neighbours straight away not to use the water.'

Where Savita lives it's often the children who have the know-how, thanks to their council. And it's up to them to share what they've learnt with the adults. Savita loves belonging to her council. She says, 'It makes me feel like I'm helping to change the world I live in.'
