How healthy are you?

Making a splash

'I've had asthma since I was two and a half,' says James, 11, from Essex.

'It has got worse over the years. Now it's quite bad and it's not always under control. I find doing sports at school difficult because I get really wheezy.

'One thing I can do is swimming, as the air in the pool is warm and moist, which is good for children with asthma. I have swimming lessons every week and I really enjoy them, so when I heard about Swim for Asthma, I wanted to have a go to see how far I could swim.

'I organised and completed my own swim, swimming 3,000 metres (that's nearly two miles). This was 1,000 metres further than I'd ever swum before. By getting my friends and family to sponsor me, I was able to raise £273 all by myself. I was really pleased that I swam so far and raised so much for the National Asthma Campaign.'

One in seven children in the UK have asthma. If you'd like to take part in Swim for Asthma, call or email to order a pack.
