About Maria

Maria, 9, from Worthing, west Sussex, went to Bolivia, a country in South America. The scariest part of the trip was the journey to Oruro, where her great-aunt lives. Maria nearly got stuck in the snow in the mountains!

Maria's diary

Monday 24 June
I'm a Catholic and yesterday was my first communion. The TV people came to film me. I was really excited about it. Now I'm even more excited, because next Monday I'm going to Bolivia, the country where my mum and dad are from.

Tuesday 2 July
Yesterday we flew to Italy, and then to Argentina, in South America. Today we flew to Bolivia. All my aunties, cousins and my uncle were waiting for us at the airport.

Wednesday 3 July
Today we went to Oruro, the town where my mum grew up. It was snowing really badly, but luckily we had a good driver. The hotel was freezing, so my mum asked if they could put a heater in our room.

Thursday 4 July
Uh-oh! Today was not a good day. I was sick three times in the morning. We called a doctor, but I was sick again before he arrived. He told us we were staying at the worst hotel in the town!!

We were meant to be filming at my auntie's house that evening. We got there, and passed round photos of my First Communion for the family to see, but then I was sick again! So we ended up going back to the hotel and filming in my room. Great!
